The London to Brighton Veteran Car Run is the longest-running motoring event in the world. The first run was in 1896, and it has taken place most years since its initial revival in 1927. To qualify, the cars must have been built before 1905. It is also the world’s largest gathering of veteran cars – 443 started in 2005, 484 in 2009, compared to 37 starters in 1927, 51 starters in 1930 and 131 in 1938.
It takes place, currently, on the first Sunday in November and the START in Hyde Park commences at Official Sunrise Time (6.58am) and finishes around 8.30am. The 500 plus veteran vehicles start to assemble along Serpentine Road and depart in groups of 15 to 30 vehicles. Pimlico is ideally placed to view the cars as they start their journey, viewing them as they travel down Birdcage Walk and over Westminster Bridge from around 07:15 until around 09:00.
