The Long Tail Search Bites Back! or The Strange Story of How You Got Here

Long Tail Search

Long Tail Search

This article isn’t to teach you about Internet marketing, but to share my amusement at some of the searches which have brought people to my site this week.

The long tail is a type of statistical distribution where a high-frequency population is followed by a low-frequency population which gradually “tails off”. The idea of blogging for Internet Marketing is to provide articles which will attract readers who are not undertaking obvious searches to your website where hopefully they will click on your advertising or buy your product (please take that as a hint!). These phrases individually are unlikely to account for a great deal of searches, but when taken as a whole, can provide significant traffic.

Here are some of the searches which I found amusing and brought people to this site this week:

  • put+laminate+floor+in+the+wrong++way
  • venting from a bathroom
  • pimlico flats screaming headline
  • ? qns eqbt
  • where to get cement from in pimlico
  • victorian style flats that need work london
  • weird lettings london
  • address of sex place in london
  • anyone got frauded renting house in pimlico
  • best places to have sex in london
  • how much does it cost to run a vent axia kitchen fan
  • leaking radiator lamiate floor
  • letting agents+indian
  • pimlico plumbers sexual harassment case
  • residential backwater westminster
  • the renting of the flat of immobility
  • thermal expansion of carpet tiles

Thanks for clearing that up Nick. I had assumed the ‘long tail’ referred to a long tail of posts going back in time. Probably others assume the same thing.

But Nick, I thought you excelled in “weird lettings london” :) Sam

  3. A local lettings agent secretly confessed that their best tenants come from Craigs List – “a bit wacky”.

Free Consultation on Website Design in order to Rent London Flats

I just had a FREE, no-obligation consultation with “Clear as Crystal” a  Web Designer in Wrexham to find out how their approach could help my business grow. I was prepared for a discussion which had as it’s objective Crystal identifying where they could provide paid for services, in fact after the consultation I was happy that their objective had been to help me improve my website without their services.

Clear as Crystal telephoned me at my booked time and we discussed the overall design of the Pimlico Flats website and came to the conclusion that whilst there are improvements that could be made to improve to overall user experience and conversion rates of the site, we don’t really need a redesign, and that to re-do the site would be change for change sake. We talked about search engine optimisation, and Nikki Pilkington’s “299 steps” ebook, and the areas where I need to put more work into making site information clearer to Google (Titles, Alt Tags).

We discussed at length my current methods of contacting customers, which are not terribly satisfactory as I currently direct people to subscribe to this blog. If they have subscribed just to be notified about vacant flats, and don’t want to read my musings about Website design this can’t be terribly satisfactory.  An alternative would be the Crystal  HTML management system.

Crystal coached me on the use of the twitter search feature to tap into the “stream of consciousness” – searching for terms such as “I need a flat in London” and similar terms to identify potential clients.

In conclusion I thoroughly recommend a free consultation (which can be booked here ) to any small business with a Website, or considering one.
