Marketing London Property by Blog

An interesting bit of Serendipity!

I live in the Cotswolds and travel to Pimlico by car when I need to transport maintenance materials for my visit. The route to SW1 takes me past Hammersmith, which is where I went to St. Paul’s School before the School moved to Barnes. The trip down the Talgarth Road, now an extension of the M4 into London, evoke memories for me as I crossed it on my commute to school via Baron’s Court Tube Station. On my weekly trip into London last week I noticed that one of the magnificent houses overlooking the Talgarth Road had a marketing sign - rememberthewindow.com . To my surprise today The Times has run an article about the property and it’s blog.

The owner has set up their own Blog which has received nearly 10,000 hits, with many contributing thoughts of their own on the house and the area. The home first went on the market last autumn for £1.75m through an agent, but with few viewings, even after cutting the price to £1.395m, the owner set up a blog. As well as describing the house — which has four bedrooms and a studio-turned reception room with a high barrelled ceiling — it tells the story of the neighbourhood and some of its residents – including the description of how the house used to look over my school’s playing fields.

Those hoping to sell without an agent can already use classified sites such as Gumtree or even eBay, but they are also being wooed by Sarah Beeny, presenter of the Channel 4 series Property Ladder. Alongside all the now usual add-ons, her site, tepilo.com, to be launched later this month, will allow buyers and sellers to interact — for free. Sarah obviously has as soft a spot for Pimlico as I have – as she extolls her proposed site by saying “Fifteen years ago, if you wanted to buy a two-bedroom flat in Pimlico, you’d go to an estate agent, but now people will start by googling it,” Beeny says. “There will always be a place for estate agents, but people like using the internet to get value for money and will be happy to save £10,000 in commission by going online.”.

Welcome to the party Sarah – Pimlico Flats have been saving Tenants their Lettings Agents fees for 52 years, it’s good to hear that the internet has caught up.
